The Learning Star

There was once a little star
Up in the sky so high
Who would everyday look down to earth
And then give a sad little sigh

Every time he looked down he would see
Little children who off to school would be
With their heavy bags so full of books
And in their eyes those sleepy looks

He would see them thus and then say a prayer
So that they could live without a care
He did not want them to worry
He did not want life to pass them by in a hurry

So with this prayer one day he went
All the way up to Heaven
With a hope in his heart
And a wish in his mind
A wish for a more pleasant time
He went straight to God and laid down his cares
He received an answer, one for which he was totally unprepared

God explained to him that school was good
That it is one of the greatest experiences of childhood
You learn your lessons and make your friends
All through the way, to your mind adding sense

Never again when you are old and grown
Will you have the chance to make those friends
Never again will you feel the same
Or have that plethora of opportunities to choose from again

This is where you will learn to decide
Your route, your goals, your path in life
School is where your grow up to be you
And get to know the world around you…

Now the Little Star’s sigh has turned into a smile
He now knows that school is worth the while
He watches the kids play and grow
And wishes them the very best for tomorrow
